KORG Legacy Collection - Analog Edition 2007 (Pc/Mac/universal)

molypoly
The popular MS-20 and Polysix from the original KORG Legacy Collection are now joined by the all-new Mono/Poly in this powerful production package. The Legacy Cell software synthesizer plus MS-20FX and MDE-X effect plug-ins are also included.

The KORG Legacy Collection series are packages that contain software versions of classic Korg synthesizers. Delivering perfect replications of the original sounds while adding many new functions that open up fresh possibilities, these software synthesizers have received the acclaim that you would expect from Korg, the original manufacturer.

Proprietary CMT technology reproduces the circuitry performance of the original synthesizer
The Polysix, MS-20 and new Mono/Poly software synthesizers use Korg’s proprietary CMT (Component Modeling Technology) to perfectly reproduce their sound and response. CMT reproduces not only the sound but also the character and response curve of each parameter, so that the results are completely faithful to the original model. Finally the complex sound and parameter response can be perfectly reproduced, delivering all the power and subtlety that up until now only true analog synthesis could provide.

Mono/Poly software synthesizer
The Mono/Poly, a four-VCO monophonic/polyphonic synthesizer that went on sale in 1981 was considered the culmination of Korg’s experience building analog synthesizers. It was released at the same time as the Polysix, and because of their capabilities as well as their price, these two instruments caused a revolution in the synthesizer world. Many musicians acclaimed the Mono/Poly as one of Korg’s best synthesizers, with a number of unique characteristics.

It provided four VCOs, each providing adjustable pitch, waveform, octave, and level, which could be stacked together for massive sounds, or cycled through one at a time for constantly shifting timbres. Together with one VCF, one VCA, two EGs, and two MGs it delivered a powerful yet accessible programming structure. But by far, its most signature characteristics were the Synchro and Cross Modulation functions that could run dual, or four-way cascaded modulation routings for creating revolutionary and aggressive tonal effects. It also featured the same futuristic Chord Memory and Arpeggiator functions as the Polysix. This diversity of parameters could be used to create an incredible universe of sounds ranging from thick and rich to sound-effect-like.

Along with being a complete reproduction of the original Mono/Poly, this new software version extends the Mono/Poly to its ultimate form. It features 128-voice polyphony with up to 16-voice unison, and a powerful eight-way virtual patching matrix. The virtual patch functionality lets you use 159 different modulation sources such as MG, EG, velocity, and keyboard tracking to modulate 35 different destinations such as oscillator pitch, level, filter, MG, or EG, giving you an awesome capability for creating complex and diverse sounds.

Two integrated multi-effects provide 19 effects including compressor, limiter, overdrive, chorus, delay, reverb and more. All effects are editable and many provide dynamic modulation possibilities. 128 effects presets are included to speed up your sound creation and music production fun.

All of this means that the Mono/Poly software synthesizer succeeds in establishing its own unique sound that cannot be produced by any previous analog synthesizer or any current analog modeling synthesizer.

256 new Mono/Poly sounds developed by a worldwide team of synth programmers and remix artists are included, and will spark your imagination and become the sounds of a new era.

Polysix software synthesizer
The Polysix programmable six-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer was introduced in 1981. With a surprisingly full-sounding voice structure, chorus/phase/ensemble effects and performance functions such as chord memory, arpeggiator, and unison the Polysix became a world-wide hit. Its distinctive string and pad sounds are often heard to this day in dance tracks and remixes.

Korg's exclusive CMT (Component Modeling Technology) delivers an accurate recreation of this classic synth's sound and response. In contrast to existing approaches that simply simulate the output sound, CMT digitally models the transistors, condensers, resistors, and other parts used in the original hardware, replicating the same circuitry as the original. This enables the complex sound and parameter response to be perfectly reproduced, delivering all the power and subtlety that up until now only true analog synthesis could provide.

The interface provides reorganized knobs and switches that resurrect the Polysix in a contemporary "rack-mountable" form for even more intuitive operation and sound-creating versatility.

In addition to faithfully replicating the sound of the original, the Polysix software synthesizer also adds enhancements such as 32-voice polyphony (max), up to 16-voice unison (with detune/spread function), flexible external modulation settings, MIDI clock synchronization, and a spread function that adjusts the spaciousness of the effects --- functionality that brings this classic synthesizer up to date for modern music production.

MS-20 software synthesizer
Since the MS-20 went on sale in 1978, this semi-modular monophonic synthesizer has enjoyed unbroken popularity for its thick and solid sound, aggressive analog filters, and inexhaustible potential for creative patching . It has become a "must-have" for modern dance and electronica artists, with original hardware units commanding a top price when found on the used market.

With two oscillators (which can be ring-modulated), high-pass/low-pass self-oscillating filters with unique distortion, and extensive modulation capabilities, the MS-20 is a very powerful analog synth design. But the Legacy MS-20 is not simply a recreation of the original design, it gives you modern advantages such as up to 32 voices of polyphony, and up to 16-voice unison (with detune/spread function).

The Legacy MS-20 also replicates the patch cable programmability of the original, even including the external signal processor that can accommodate external audio input.

Flexible external MIDI modulation settings and MIDI clock LFO synchronization have also been added, giving you even greater creative potential.

Programs have been created by Korg’s legendary voicing team, and new sounds are being added to the korguser.net website for free download, many created by top dance and electronica artists. Along with the provided Programs, a number of templates are included providing instant setups for running audio through the filter and other commonly-used functions. Programs can be edited (of course!) and saved by themselves or in Banks of 32.

Unique MS-20 Controller Included
Also included is a USB-MIDI controller that reproduces the original MS-20 at 84% size, with the addition of a velocity-sensitive mini-keyboard. From the shape of the knobs, the way in which the LEDs blink, the panel silk-screening, right down to the color of the included patch cords, the MS-20 Controller perfectly replicates the original MS-20. Simply connect it to your computer via USB, then turn the knobs and use the patching facilities for complete realtime control of the MS-20 software. Once you start programming or tweaking sounds using the MS-20iC you’ll realize the creative inspiration that can only come from using real hardware!

The controller is not limited to working with the MS-20 – it can be used for all of the synths in the Legacy Collection as well as other synths/instruments/samplers you may own.

Use the MS-20, Polysix, and Effects As a Single Software Synthesizer
Legacy Cell is a completely new idea not available on any previous software synthesizer. It's a revolutionary "combination structure" that lets you use one of five different combinations of CMT-based synthesizers (MS-20 + Polysix, 2 x MS-20, 2 x Polysix, 1 x MS-20, or 1 x Polysix) plus two insert effects and two master effects --- all as a single software synthesizer that delivers powerful new sounds and textures!

Legacy Cell provides 256 different performance programs including controller assignments. The programs include spacious pads that shift over time thanks to the advanced modulations possibilities, fat sounds that take advantage of the new Unison parameter, and phrase-type programs that combine the MS-20 and Polysix software synthesizers to play a kick, bass, and pad from a single key. Korg's highly respected sound designers have created programs that match classic Korg sounds to today's music scene.

Onscreen Encoders and Sliders
Each onscreen Encoder and Slider can be set to control any parameter of a synth or effect used in the Cell structure. They can also be set to learn a CC for control from any external piece of hardware (keyboard, controller, control surface etc.). When the microKONTROL is connected to the stand-alone Cell application they "speak" through a special "native" communication mode and these settings are instantly sent to the microKONTROL, creating a Scene complete with the proper text displayed for each parameter.

Two CMT-based synths
The Legacy Cell can combine up to two of the CMT-based synths (MS-20 or Polysix). This is the channel strip for mixing the synths; it shows the name of the synth being used, has controls for volume and panning, and sends for the two possible Master effects.

The controls for the Master effects
Each Master FX has an output level fader and pan knob, and Master Effect 1 has a send level (with pre/post fader position selector) when routing it into Master Effect 2.

The Master Effects
Select from 19 great algorithms, some taken from the TRITON workstations.

The Program Display
Select programs by clicking on them, or using the Main Dial on the microKONTROL when it is running in "native" mode. Notice that 32 sounds are displayed at a time so you can display/select more sounds by clicking on the appropriate field at the bottom of this display. To the right of this display is a graphic representation of the complete Cell Structure.

Macintosh/Windows Support for
Stand-alone and Plug-in Operation
